****Structure Fire /Elder Street Command****
On 10/12/2024 at about 1812 hours Grant County Fire District 7 was dispatched and responded to a reported Structure Fire at Elder Street and 2nd Ave in the City of Soap Lake.
Shortly after dispatched a Chief Officer arrived at the scene and reported a single story single family dwelling with smoke showing on all 4 corners with vehicles parked in the driveway and unknown occupants.
A partial primary search was conducted but due to smoke conditions a full primary search had to wait until additional units arrived at the scene. A Fire District 7 engine arrived and knocked down the seat of the fire located in the kitchen with extension into the attic.
An Ephrata Fire Department Engine arrived and finished the primary search and no occupants were in the home.
Units from Fire District 13 arrived and extensive overhaul operations were conducted.
Units remained at the scene until approximately 2300 hours.
Fire District 7 was assisted by Ephrata Fire Department, Grant County Fire District 13, Lifeline Ambulance, Soap Lake Police Department and Grant County Sheriff's Department. Thank you all for your support. With primarily Volunteer Fire Departments in Grant County we rely heavily on one another during incidents like this.
3 dogs, a tarantula, and 2 cats survived the Fire unfortunately one dog had perished due to the fire. 1 of the 3 dogs sustained significant smoke inhalation injuries and is under the care of a veterinarian. The cause of the fire is determined to be Electrical.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
